The Institute of Solar Technology (IST) is a scientific and educational organisation, established in 1980 and located in Thessaloniki.

The objectives of the IST are:

 

1. To encourage research, development and exploitation of renewable energy sources.

2. To scatter information in the area of renewable energy sources utilisation through conferences, workshops and publications.

3. To establish international collaborations and aid in technology transfer in the area of renewable energy sources.

4. To propose more efficient policies for the better diffusion and actual application of renewable energy sources.

 

To pursue its objectives the IST has already organised nine successful National Conferences on Renewable Energy Sources (in 1982, 1985, 1998, 1992, 1996, 1999, 2002, 2006 and 2009) . In each Conference more than 150 scientific papers were presented with more than 500 participants.

Proceedings from all conferences have been published in Greek, presenting the state of research and development work in Renewable Energy Sources area in Greece and its progress during the last two decades. Additional volumes containing summaries in English of all the invited lectures and papers presented have also been published, aiming at the development of stronger tights with colleagues in the field abroad.
