Faculty Administration

The institutional bodies of the Faculty, according to articles 10 & 12 of L. 1268/82 are the following:

  1. The General Assembly of the Faculty
  2. The Deanship of the Faculty
  3. The Dean of the Faculty

1. The General Assembly of the Faculty
The General Assembly of the Faculty consists of the members of the General Assemblies of all the Faculty Schools and has all the competencies that are assigned to it by law.

2. The Deanship of the Faculty
The Deanship meets according to article 10 of L. 1268/82, the participants being the Dean, the Chairs of the Faculty Schools and a student representative from each School, appointed by the Student Board at the end of each academic year.
The competencies of the Deanship are:

  • To advise on the 4-year academic-developmental program of AUTH, as regards the section pertaining to the Faculty.
  • To approve and coordinate the interdepartmental study programs that lead to the acquisition of a Faculty degree and to coordinate the study programs of the various Schools.
  • To process the proposals put forward by the Schools for the creation of new Teaching and Research Faculty (DEP) posts and submit them to the Rector’s Council.
  • To decide on the organization of the Deanship’s services, and on the placement and employment status of the Special Technical Laboratory Faculty (ETEP) at the Faculty Laboratories.

3. The Dean of the Faculty
Full-time Professors and Associate Professors are elected to the seat of Dean of the Faculty for a four-year period, according to articles 10 & 12 of L. 1268/82, article 79 par. 4c of L. 1566/85, article 28 par. 1 of L. 2083/92, article 1 par. 4 of L. 2188/94, article 9 par. 1a of L. 3443/06 and article 22 of the AUTH Internal Regulations.
The Dean is elected in a similar way to the Chair of the School. The relevant electorate consists of all the electoral bodies that are required to elect the Chairs of the Schools that belong to the Faculty.
The electoral body also comprises Teaching and Research Faculty (DEP) members serving at the non-autonomous Schools, as well as all the students and other categories of staff at the Schools in question.
The competencies of the Dean are to:

  • Convene the General Assembly of the Faculty and Deanship.
  • Prepare the daily agenda and preside over its work.
  • Coordinate the joint lessons of the Schools.
  • Supervise the services provided by the Dean’s Office.
  • Be responsible for the implementation of the decisions taken by the General Assembly of the Faculty and Deanship.
  • Establish committees to study or handle specific issues.
