1919-25 | The exchange of populations under the Treaties of Neuilly and Lausanne lead to the creation of an ethnically homogenous Greek state.
| 1923 | With the Treaty of Lausanne, the borders of Greece are established once and for all.
| 1940-4 | Bulgaria,Hitler's ally,revives its claims by occupying part of Macedonia.
| 1945 | Onwards Bulgaria and Yugoslavia vie with each other to win over the so-called Slavonic-speaking "Macedonians".
Yugoslavia attempts to create a "Macedonian nation" out of the region's various ethnic groups with Skopje as its centre.
Greece reacts strongly, with urgent calls to preserve the historical truth,the current national borders, and peace in the region.
