XI. Macedonia from 1913 to the Present

1919-25 The exchange of populations under the Treaties of Neuilly and Lausanne lead to the creation of an ethnically homogenous Greek state.
1923 With the Treaty of Lausanne, the borders of Greece are established once and for all.
1940-4 Bulgaria,Hitler's ally, revives its claims by occupying part of Macedonia.
1945 Onwards Bulgaria and Yugoslavia vie with each other to win over the so-called Slavonic-speaking "Macedonians". Yugoslavia attempts to create a "Macedonian nation" out of the region's various ethnic groups with Skopje as its centre. Greece reacts strongly, with urgent calls to preserve the historical truth, the current national borders, and peace in the region.
